PART ONE - VOLCANIC ASH CLAY
WHAT'S IN IT? This would have to be one of the top ten questions I receive about the masque. Have you ever heard someone say, "if it was that simple, somebody would have done it long ago?". Well, believe it or not, using volcanic ash clays for detoxification, cleansing and healing has been around for centuries. Yes, I said healing. Just last night, my husband was cooking dinner...I'll let you mull over that for a minute (yes, he cooks and he's quite good at it too) and burned his finger while taking a pot off the stove-top. He yelled for the coconut oil, but instead, I spread some SKINaturals masque on the burned area. Immediately, he felt relief from the pain, and after 3 minutes he washed the masque off and I couldn't even see the burn. There was no swelling, redness, or marks. Of course, we then "sealed" the area with CocoCremè. Just like you, when I first started experimenting with different clays, I was amazed at the power these little granules hold.
Another popular question I receive is, "How did you come up with this product?" Well...I had my "ah-ha" moment while washing dishes and randomly looking at our TV. My husband, Rob had a "nature" channel playing when I see a limping deer, recorded by a group of TV journalists, seek out and lay in a mound of ash clay (I thought it was just dirt) repeatedly for three days for approximately the same length of time. The material had been edited to a time-lapsed clip, but on the third day, the deer was limping to the clay mound, however, after approximately the same amount of time as the days before, the deer jumped up and ran off into the wild. Naturally, I thought I had missed something so I asked Rob to rewind the story. That is when I learned of the true nature of this programming was to show how animals in the wild instinctively know what to eat, drink, or "have a soak" in to heal themselves. Well, I had to do it, I slapped myself on the head and loudly exclaimed, "AH-HA"! Needless to say, I didn't finish the kitchen, the floor didn't get mopped, because I had to find out where this awesome mud was sold. You guessed it, I couldn't find this simple, yet amazing tool given to us by Mother Earth herself. I would occasionally have momentary gasps of joy only to find that this wonderful organic, healing clay had been contaminated with chemical preservatives, additives, humectants and emulsifiers. I had seen my destiny...take what had already been given to us and NOT RUIN IT!
CLAY OR MUD??
When I began research for SKINaturals, I read a lot. However, the book, "The Clay Cure" by Ran Knishinsky was cited in almost everything I read. If you've been to any of our "live" presentations, you would have seen this book in our display. Definitely recommended reading if you are serious about holistic medicine. One thing for sure, by the time I finished my research I had learned: there is a difference between clay and mud as I hope this excerpt helps you understand. I know it will be hard, but try to keep your mouth from dropping open as you read this excerpt (note - our SN:Masque is for external uses only):
The Clay Cure - Knishinsky writes that clay molecules carry a negative electrical charge while impurities carry a positive charge. With the clay the positively charged ions are attracted to the negatively charged surfaces of the clay molecule. An exchange reaction occurs in which the clay mineral ions are swapped for the ions of the positive charged substance. The clay molecule is now electrically satisfied and holds onto the positive ion until our bodies can eliminate both.
Healing Power of Mother Earth
These days, more and more people in rapidly growing numbers are aware of the healing properties of food, herb, and water, but as yet, very few know that the earth itself, receiving its vital energies from the sun, air, and waters, is a most powerful healing agent of physical regeneration. Clays, mud, sand – these different forms of earth all participate in life-giving, health-restoring processes. However, since the miracle of clay is a healing phenomenon so relatively unknown, it seems necessary to begin this book with a few words on the properties of clay and its uses. May the reader soon come to understand how our earth is our cure." "In cases of organic disorders, its intense activity eliminates and destroys unhealthy cells and activates the rebuilding of healthy ones.
Sodium verses Calcium: I have seen, tried and/or bought other brands of facial mask deemed as “natural” or “organic” however, in my research I learned a very important difference in the volcanic ash clay itself. Sodium montmorillonite, a member of the volcanic ash clay group, is the most common clay used facial masks. While facial masks containing sodium will feel good and leave the skin clean and fresh, it is NOT a “living clay”. Calcium montmorillonite, known as "living clay" is reported to contain no less than 67 minerals. This impressive assortment of minerals includes calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, manganese, and silica as well as trace elements, those appearing in very tiny amounts. The “living” element of the clay allows skin cells to regenerate, enhances collagen production and results in continued, lasting results.
Clays Exhibit Novel Antibacterial Properties
Beauty treatments that use clay aren't new. "Ordinary clay can kill the drug-resistant superbug
MRSA – methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus -- and other lethal infections, and is being investigated as a potential tool in treating patients. "Healing" clays have been known for years to soak up toxins produced by bacteria, which can limit the spread of infection. But now, research at Arizona State University shows some forms of clay actually kill salmonella, E.-coli, MRSA and ulcer ans, which causes flesh-eating disease. If they can figure out how it works, this could make a cheap, low-tech weapon against infection available throughout the Third World." The Calgary Herald 2008
"The Native Americans call it "E-Wah-Kee" meaning "The-Mud-That-Heals" Bentonite, as well as other types of healing clay, has been used by indigenous cultures since before recorded history. "The Amargosians (predecessors to the Aztecs), the Aborigines, and natives of Mexico and South America all recognized the benefit of clays. " "...healing mud not only draws toxic material out of the body if taken internally, but also reduces pain and infection in open wounds on both humans and animals."
Medicinal Clay Treatment: Simple Clay Bath
Specially formulated clay baths have been shown to be able to literally pull pollutants out like a magnet, getting rid of years of toxic accumulation in just one bath. Detoxification symptoms are less than from internal chelation methods, and results can happen much more quickly. These clay baths have been scientifically proven to release toxic metals and chemicals from the body, and they are so inexpensive that anyone can afford to take them.
Now available through SKINaturals, you can special order this type of clay in various sizes. Email Debbie for more information.
INGREDIENT: Coconut Oil
COCONUT BENEFITS YOUR “BEST FRIENDS”:
Lauric Acid as well as the other antibacterial properties of our coconut oil help relieve intestinal and gastric distress in most animals. This is great for our beloved cats who don’t have to worry about coughing up those nasty hair balls anymore. As little as 1 teaspoon a day helps animals perform better, relieve joint pain, and an added bonus: when brushing your pet, you’ll find their coat to have more shine and less tangles.
SKINaturals’ CocoCremè contains 57% Lauric Acid (monolaurin), a unique medium-chain fat available naturally from only one other source: mother’s milk. There are several articles relating to the health benefits of coconut oil, externally as well as internally. (Please see accompanying articles) The links are underlined.
